What I'm Doing Now

Field service engineer by day. Websites, tools, sport and networking the rest of the time. This is the status board — current rather than impressive.

WORK

  • Field Service Engineer at Precor. Based in the North West, covering the North and travelling around the UK to look after Precor and Peloton commercial fitness equipment.
  • Just past my first year in field service, and still learning something on almost every visit.

ON THE BENCH

  • Pure Eden Wellbeing: a second independent wellbeing business, and turning its site from a concept into a proper booking and client platform.
  • The Wellness Room by Danielle: a prototype website and booking front end that feels as personal as the real treatment room.
  • Netball statistics: working out whether grassroots netball can have useful numbers without turning match day into data entry.
  • Making sense of field service stock information, mostly by refusing to do the same tidy-up by hand twice.
  • This site, one article, review and project at a time.

LEARNING

  • Working towards the Cisco CCNA 200-301 — building, breaking and troubleshooting networks until I know why they work.

PLAYING

  • Playing ice hockey for Riverside Raiders as #95, and running the club's media and website.

COACHING

  • Team Coach at Grappenhall & Widnes Netball Club, and looking after the club's website.
  • Still convinced that the most useful thing a grassroots coach can do is make sure everybody gets the ball.

READING

  • Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America's Gutsiest Troublemakers by Nick Offerman
  • Every Tool's a Hammer by Adam Savage, the book that gave my curiosity permission.

WATCHING

CURRENT RABBIT HOLE

  • Knipex pliers, and just how much better a properly designed pair can be.
  • How many monthly subscriptions a small business actually needs, and how to save them from the generic copy-and-paste templates all over the web.

RECENTLY FINISHED

  • A Websites section, so the web work is findable without this turning into an agency site.
  • Tracking down my grandpa's published engineering papers, and separating what I can document from what is family story.
  • The Wellness Room prototype, which started the whole small-business website thread.

A now page. Current rather than impressive. If this is badly out of date, that itself is quite a good status update.
